Hollywood has mastered the art of dishing Rom-Coms with multiple storylines. Recently, this flavor of cinema has been kicking in Tollyland. Many directors, esp. the ones coming from the western side of the world are churning such films in Telugu. The new movie on the block that tries to refine the genre is Prema Ishq Kaadhal directed by debutant Pavan Sadineni.

The film is a bundle of three love stories rolled into one. Surprisingly, unlike other movies falling in this zone, these stories are not connected to each other. In a scene, there's just a faint intersection of the three.

Randy (Harshavardhan Rane) is a rockstar who runs a coffee shop. He is tagged to Sarayu (Vithika Sheru) - a student with a fetish for candy floss, stuffed toys and ice cream in rain (in Trivikram style).

The second couple Royal Raju (Vishnuvardhan) - an assistant director - and Sameera (Ritu Verma) - a fashion designer - are always at loggerheads with each other. They seem like a disjoint set and their romance evoke much laughter.

The third ones are also unlikely. Arjun (Harish) is a glib RJ and Shanti (Sree Mukhi) is a software engineer. Harish tries his best to grab Shanti's attention but she always tries to stay away from him.

Prema Ishq Kaadhal is an offbeat drama which entails people from different walks of life. The six lead characters are poles apart in their personalities and professions, but still they are brought together in a perfectly woven tale of love. They embark on an emotional ride to sustain their relationship and drive the plot forward.

Director Pavan Sadineni brings an air of realism to the movie. Although post interval, the film drags for quite a length, Pavan ensured that it never went overboard with artificial flavor. Most of the cast are debutants and they brought in a natural aura to the film with their simple yet sensitive performances. Harshavarshan and Ritu Verma take the cake and stand out from the rest.

Music is another asset for the film. The songs have a mushy feel and the lively tunes keep lingering in our ears much after the film. Shravan took utmost care to plug in fusion music wherever possible and laced it with dollops of saccharine. The background synchs with the mood of the film.

Prema Ishq Kaadhal is a coming of age rom-com that may please a certain section of viewers. The film is devoid of cinematic elements and masala staples, which add to the fresh and vibrant tone of the film. Amid few limitations, the moment of truth for the film is the romantic tapestry of the three couple and their roller-coaster ride of emotions. This film will definitely lightens your spirits.
