“A fitting example of how not to make a film, may be !”

Bikinis. Fight scene. Bikinis. Some hero-friend dialogues. Bikinis again. More bikinis. A party where hero sees heroine. More bikinis. Hero goes to another place. Finds more bikinis. The movie theme, almost non-existent introduced. More bikinis. Then bikini song.
Rey is about Rock (Sai Dharam Tej), a movie as weird as the nickname. Rock is so strange a person his father (Naresh) detests him and his parents constantly try to find ways, albeit comically, of avoiding him. Rock loves nothing but women. Rock and his group of friends can be called nymphomaniacs craving for just one thing, and only one thing.
Rock, who earns pocket money through smuggling(yes, you heard it right) and that too in Jamaica, where his family is settled and where everyone for the sake of the audience' convenience speaks in brilliant but accented Telugu. Once we ignore that and move on, Rock joines a music academy, started by JP(for comic effect) which apparently churns out the world's best dancers. Yes, you heard it right again. While you are out pondering the relation between music and dance and MTV and Step Up style World Dance competition, there is a psycho dance-contest winner Jenna played by Shraddha Das, tailed at all times by a comical villain who is funny in spite of his well cut physique, constantly outthought by Rock himself. Their paths cross basically because Rock's love interest (Sayami Kher) has just one ambition, to win the Best in the World dance competition. How's that for creativity in naming the competition? Jenna is after her life, because Jenna doesn't like competing, just winning without competition.
Amidst all the hip hop and rap and funky costumes, the movie moves from pne sub plot to another as YVS Choudary makes a mockery of everything that is logic and pours a lot of money to achieve that. Rey is a weird movie. It has weird characters which do not make sense to you. People randomly kill each other, which seems ridiculous even if the movie is set in Jamaica and where we are not sure about what the laws exactly are. Yet, a music and dance enthusiast spending time with dons is a little too far-stretched. He doing anything for the sake of a girl he fell in love with, purely because she has a good figure is weirder. Amidst all this weirdness, the story is conspicuous by its absence. The lead pair looks so soul-less you will find more chemistry between cats and dogs of a random neighborhood picked in a random Indian city. Rey defies everything that is filmmaking and yet might attract those audiences that love watching women in bikinis. That is all there is to say about it.
