Verdict - Watch it for visual effects and bits and pieces of technically appealing scenes spread over the film's canvas.

"Baahubali" - What am I buying in the name of 'Pride of Telugu cinema' ??!

After so much of hype and hoopla surrounding the film, the expectations were sky high when I walked into the cinema. After just few minutes into the film, every pre-conceived notion of mine was beaten to pulp; because nothing was born or evolved into cinematic brilliance. If this is an idea to bridge the gap between Tollywood and Hollywood and to take take our films beyond the realms of global standards, then it's a sheer manipulative gesture.

I had to be content with the content as it offered nothing novel or unseen or unheard on the celluloid. On top of it, with each passing scene, one or the other Hollywood inspiration crosses the path of narration. Adding to the woes, all these had to watched amid reverberating background 'noise'.

There's some respite in terms of visual effects, sword fights, overblown war sequences and few heroic stunts / high points / adrenaline-rushing moments that are archetypal of any S S Rajamoulli film.

That being said, I was thrown into a narrative quagmire, where the events of the second half are revealed in the first; thus making the former redundant and unimaginative.

I wonder when everything is put in front of us on a platter to consume, what is left to showcase in its sequel - the conclusion. That boils down the movie watching experience akin to watching news channels in the evening and affirming the news through newspapers in the morning.

"Baahubali" reinstates the belief that... All that glitters is not gold... All that's gloss is not class... All the state-of-the-art visual effects and technical values can't hide poor writing. Forget about 'pride', first figure out the 'cinema' from the pile of bland assortments. That's nothing short of a challenge for the viewer.

My Rating - 2.5/5 (Only for VFX and bits and pieces of technically appealing scenes spread over the film's canvas).
