Verdict - Packs few punches but those can’t stop testing your patience to see something better in this avoidable fare.

Sardar Gabbar Singh was making waves all over; much before, right from the 'making' phase. Be it the 'inspirational' story and screenplay penned by Pawan Kalyan. He took close to 2.5 years to do that and said to emulate the character of 'Man with no name' from Clint Eastwood's Spaghetti Westerns. There are also references to Sholay in the premise that sets the milieu and fixes the character of the protagonist, Gabbar Singh. With expectations heaping with each passing day and people drawing references to its predecessor, SGS has become the talk of the town. But, alas! All the hype and hoopla snowballs into a menial mishmash that leaves a bad aftertaste for years to come.

Before penning the review, I was in a predicament as where to start this review and how to end it. I couldn't catch hold of a good area to start with and started thinking of all the brutal waste of time and effort that went into the film. The idea is simple. Pawan wants to make a Telugu-fied Western. With this thought, he also borrowed the phenomenal score of Ennio Morricone to be wasted in a downright silly scene. Horses, gun fires, a villain and messiah of masses adorn the film's narrative. Wait, there's also a princess with whom the hero plays hide-and-seek in the garb of love. Apart from all these tropes, what you see is just the Power Star and his sloppy antics in the cheesy scenes. Is it a movie or a cheaply orchestrated reality show?

At times, SGS also wears a tinge of Aagadu. But that only makes you feel that the latter was a much better product. Few good things come in the form of Devi Sri Prasad's background score but how can the composer elevate the drama and emotion when the scenes are undercooked and the screenplay is borderline choppy. You come you play your game. Hit the goons. Dance to a massy number and indulge in loads of silly jokes that make you laugh at them and not laugh with them. This is the string of farcical pieces that SGS tries to stitch together to make it a cohesive film. No matter, how hard you try; the incoherencies are always glaring at you.

There's very little importance given to the supporting cast and the bunch of comedians. Every frame is hell-bent to showcase Power Star as a larger than life figure. The climax speaks volumes of slipshod screenwriting and what all can be done not to reach the expectations of audience. That's a big farce that can't even be termed BAD. And it doesn't stop here, the franchise moves ahead with Raja Sardar Gabbar Singh!

To pull the curtains, Sardar Gabbar Singh is a melange of Gabbar Singh and Gudumba Shankar. There are also references to his famous lines from Attarintiki Daredi. These pack few punches but can't stop testing your patience to see something better in this avoidable fare. At the start of the film, there's a card saying "This film is dedicated to my fans - Pawan Kalyan". However, even the hardcore fans may find this film difficult to palate. Now, my question is "Who's directed the film?"
