Julie Andrews is content with closing the chapter on The Princess Diaries. When asked about the possibility of a third installment, the actress told TODAY.com that sometimes it's best to let a good thing be.23 years have passed since the first film premiered, featuring Julie Andrews as Queen Clarisse Renaldi alongside Anne Hathaway, who portrays her granddaughter, Mia Thermopolis.
The film traces Mia's path after discovering she's the heir to Genovia's throne. Mia eventually ascends to the throne in the 2004 sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Andrews mentioned being asked "so many times" about a potential follow-up film and expressed her happiness if one were to be made. However, she doesn't anticipate it happening.

Potential for a Third Film
In 2019, Hathaway disclosed on an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that a script for the third movie existed. Hathaway, along with Julie and producer Debra Martin Chase, expressed their eagerness for the project, emphasizing their desire for perfection before moving forward.
Andrews confirmed to TODAY.com that discussions about the project had taken place but emphasized that nothing concrete had materialized. Hathaway echoed similar sentiments to People in January 2023, stressing that the release of a third film requires patience.

The first film, released in 2001, received praise for its charming storyline, Anne Hathaway's breakout performance, and Julie Andrews' regal portrayal.
