Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness's opening weekend box office collection beats all three of Sam Raimi's Spiderman movies

Sam Raimi's directorial return to the superhero genre with Doctor Strange in the Madness of the Multiverse has managed to become a critical and commercial success. While the director is no stranger to boxing office success, his latest project has managed to outgross all three of his iconic Spider-Man movies.

The original Spider-Man trilogy starring Toby Macguire has often been credited with making the superhero genre more mainstream and leading to Hollywood studios jumpstarting many superhero projects.

Raimi's original trilogy was some of the highest-grossing movies of the early 2000s, with the 2002 Spider-Man movie becoming the first movie to gross a 100 million dollars in its opening weekend.

Doctor Strange 2 has grossed $187 million domestically in the U.S. and has grossed over $450 million worldwide giving the fourth-best opening for an MCU movie, the 187 opening beats Spider-Man(2002) which grossed $114 million.

Spider-Man 2 (2004) because the movie opened on a Wednesday grossed $180 million over 5 days and finally, Spider-Man 3 (2007) which grossed $151 million.

With the movie beating the opening of all three of Raimi's Spider-Man movies it remains to be seen if it will beat all three in its total worldwide collection, Spider-Man grossed $821 million, and Spider-Man 2 brought in $788 million while Spider-Man 3 grossed $894 million.

Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch , Elizabeth Olsen , Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently in theaters.
