Gulshan Devaiah's insightful take on privilege wins the internet as he reacts to Sonam Kapoor's old video about how she got her debut film

Actor Gulshan Devaiah is busy winning the internet as he reacted to an old clip of an interaction between actors Rajkummar Rao and Sonam Kapoor where the two talk about the advantages that star kids have in Bollywood. The clip shared by a user on Twitter shows Sonam talking about how her father Anil Kapoor initially refused to let her work with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali because he did not know him.

While the user who shared the clip on social media used it to pity Rajkummar Rao for having to put up with a conversation about privilege, Gulshan reacted to the post pointing out how old the video is and asked the user to consider the fact that Sonam’s views might have evolved and changed since.

In the video, Rajkummar Rao who has worked with Sonam in the film Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aiesa Laga, points out how star kids definitely have it easier getting their first film. Disagreeing with the fact, Sonam points out how it took her five years to get her debut film Saawariya which was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Sonam who had started out in Bollywood by assisting the filmmaker on the sets of his film Black further shared how her father and actor Anil Kapoor wanted her to work and learn on a film set of a filmmaker he knows and has worked with but she refused. Gulshan in his long tweet pointed out how the privileged often try to disguise their advantages by trying to point to some merit behind their selection and said it’s best to rather accept it.

He wrote, “This is ooooooold .. neither of them even look like this anymore. Perhaps her views have changed. Some of the privileged were not used to accepting their privilege & found ways to showcase some kind of merit based selection … dumb idea. Best accept the privilege. We all have our privileges. We all do.”

Gulshan who is an outsider in the film industry, further spoke about his own privilege and pointed out how it made his discussion to act in films easier. The Blurr actor’s point of view impressed many of his followers who lauded him for his astute opinion.

“I was privileged that I didn’t have to financially support my parents. I am privileged to have received private school education. I’m privileged that i could afford to watch movies for leisure and not have to work to help my family make a living. Acknowledge your privilege, be grateful for what you have & work to build upon it,” he added.
