Lata Mangeshkar dies: PM Modi, Akshay Kumar & others are devastated as they pay tribute to India’s Swar Kokila

The people of our country woke up to a heartbreaking news today morning. Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who was fondly referred to as Nightingale of India, breathed her last at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital at the age of 92 due to multi-organ failure. In January this year, she was admitted to the hospital after testing positive for novel coronavirus. She was also diagnosed with pneumonia and was in the ICU on ventilator. Lata ji was recovering and was also taken off the ventilator last week, but her health deteriorated yesterday and she was back on ventilator support.

The news of Lata didi’s sudden demise has left the entire nation in a state of shock. Some time back, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his official social media handle to pay tribute to the late singer. He tweeted, “I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people.” In another tweet, he shared: “I consider it my honour that I have always received immense affection from Lata Didi. My interactions with her will remain unforgettable. I grieve with my fellow Indians on the passing away of Lata Didi. Spoke to her family and expressed condolences. Om Shanti.”

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passes away at 92 at Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital 

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar called the Swar Kokila a ‘mother figure’ as he shared, “Deeply saddened by demise of @lata_mangeshkar didi she has been a mother figure to me over the years, use to call her every fortnight & have conversations. It's a personal loss for me. Her presence will be immensely missed in my life. Love you Didi. #OmShanti #VoiceofIndia.”

Lata didi may not be amongst us today, but will continue to live on in our hearts forever.
