A news report in ANI revealed that R Madhavan had spoken about the same in a recent event in Delhi wherein he said that he had told Shah Rukh Khan about the film while they were working together on the movie Zero. The 3 Idiots actor was quoted to say, “He vividly remembered it that during one of his birthday parties. He asked me about the film's status and expressed his desire to be a part of the film. 'Mujhe background mein koi bhi role chalega. Main is film ka hissa hona chahta hu (I'm ready to play any role in the background. I want to be a part of this film), Khan sahab told me.”
R Madhavan went on to say that even though he though Shah Rukh Khan was kidding in the beginning, he dropped a thank you text for the megastar on his manager’s number at the suggestion of his wife Sarita. The Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein actor added, “I dropped a message to Khan sahab's manager asking her to convey my gratitude to him and I instantly got a text from the manager saying, 'Khan sahab dates puch rahe hai shoot ki (Khan sir is asking about the dates of the shoot)'… and that's how he became a part of our film.”

The actor went on to say that both Shah Rukh Khan and Suriya did not charge any penny for the movie, not even for their costumes, caravans, or assistants. For the unversed, Suriya will do the same cameo role of SRK as that of a journalist in different versions of the movie. The movie also stars Simran , Rajit Kapur, Muralidaran and others in pivotal roles.
