Top Gun: Maverick is set to have the biggest opening weekend in Tom Cruise's career with over a $100 million

According to a report by the Hollywood Reporter, the highly anticipated sequel to Top Gun is set to have a 92 million dollar opening weekend making it the biggest one in actor Tom Cruise's career.

But a lot of industry experts are more generous with many saying will be somewhere between a 100-120 million dollar collection.

The sequel to the 1986 hit classic had its premier at Comicon in April and received positive responses from critics and fans with many praising it by saying it surpasses the original.

The current record for the biggest opening in the actor's career is held by the 2005 Steven Spielberg adaption of War of the Worlds which collected 64.8 million and the second place is held by Mission Impossible: Fallout with 62 million, Fallout also went to be the highest-grossing movie in the franchise.

Tom Cruise's movies tend to have a long run in theaters both in the domestic market as well as internationally and it won't be much of a surprise when the movie breaks a few box office records.

Top Gun: Maverick is directed by Joseph Kosinski who took over the reins from the late Tony Scott who passed away in 2012.

Joining Tom Cruise the cast of the movie includes Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer

The movie will hit theaters worldwide this weekend on the 27th May.
