Micheal Bay's latest action movie Ambulance stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Eiza Gonzálezin as the leads and follows two-step brothers who turn to crime and hijack an ambulance.
The veteran director is no stranger to tense action sequences and explosions on his sets, in a recent interview with Screenrant the director said that the tensest day of shooting was the last day and it involved his dog Nitro.
Ambulance is based on the 2005 Danish film by Laurits Munch-Petersen and has all the trademarks of a Micheal Bay action movie.
While his recent movies are known for their heavy reliance on CGI, the director has said that this movie has reduced the usage and relied more on practical effects.
In the interview, the director talks about a scene involving his dog Nitro and how it created the tensest moment in the entire shoot -
"I didn't put myself in this movie, but I did put my dog in it. That's Nitro, my mastiff. It was probably one of the tensest days because I had 19 minutes left of sunlight and he's 217 pounds. I had to push him in a little teeny Fiat. And he's like, ‘What are you doing? I can't fit in here."
The director also talked about his love for explosions and says while he doesn't have an exact count he believes he holds the record for the most vehicles destroyed -
"I don't, but someone can count. Well, we do have a count from my transport guy, but I've definitely probably destroyed more vehicles than any other director in history. Just to give an example, I was in a Chinese car factory, and they were so impressed to take me into the guy that crashes the test crash dummies and I'm like, 'I am not impressed, dude. Okay? I've crashed more cars than you ever have in your lifetime.'"
The supporting cast of Ambulance includes Garret Dillahunt, Keir O'Donnell, Jackson White, Olivia Stambouliah, Moses Ingram, Colin Woodell, A Martinez, and Cedric Sander.
Ambulance was made with a budget of 40 million and had its first screening in France to positive reception from critics and audiences, the movie will release worldwide on April 8, 2022.
