Vikram, RRR and K.G.F Chapter 2: Three films which have challenged Baahubali 2's box office supremacy this year and won!
After 5 years since its' reelase S.S. Rajamouli's Baahubali 2 has finally started to move down on the list of records with new challengers like RRR, Vikram and K.G.F 2 exciting fans.

Crossing the Rs. 150 crores milestone at the box office, Kamal Haasan ’s Vikram has now beaten S.S. Rajamouli ’s record holding fantasy drama Baahubali 2 in Tamil Nadu. Vikram became the highest grossing film in Tamil Nadu, a record so far held by the Prabhas starrer for 5 years standing.
Baahubali 2 has been unbeaten for 5 years since its release in 2017 and finally post the pandemic this year, the many records made by the film at the box office are beginning to be shattered. Vikram became the third film this year, to have broken the records made by Baahubali 2 in its home state, Tamil Nadu.
Before Vikram, Prasanth Neel’s K.G.F Chapter 2 which released in April 2022, beat Baahubali 2’s record in Karnataka and so did S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Vikram earned Rs. 155 crores in total in Tamil Nadu on Day 16 beating Baahubali 2 lifetime collection Tamil Nadu which totalled out at Rs. 152 crores during its lifetime in the state.
That's it. #Vikram is now the highest grossing film of ALL TIME in Tamil Nadu, beating Baahubali 2. The Ulaganayagan does it in style, and this is a collar-up moment for Kollywood fans after 5 years of waiting!

It's not just Vikram, it's #IndustryHitVikram 👏
In Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Baahubali 2 minted Rs. Rs. 213 crores in total and RRR beat it with collections of Rs. 215 crores on Day 9 of it’s release. Similarly in Karnataka Prabhas’ film made Rs. 129 crores in 2017 but K.G.F Chapter 2 led by Yash beat the film easily in the state with a total of Rs. 182 crores grossed by the film in the state.
The only region where Baahubali 2 now remains unbeaten is in the Hindi belt where no Bollywood or pan-Indian film has been able to dethrone the film even after 5 years. While Bollywood has several big ticket films in its kitty at the moment, it is highly unlikely that any would be able to give S.S. Rajamouli’s magnum opus a challenge seeing the trend of audiences aren’t too excited by Hindi cinema post the pandemic.
