Akshay Kumar may play lead role in Jatt and Juliet’s Bollywood version

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has reportedly bagged the lead role in the Hindi remake of the all-time blockbuster Punjabi film,Jatt & Juliet. The remake right of the film has been bought by Himesh Reshammiya and Rakesh Upadhyay, whose first production ventureKhiladi 786also featured Akshay. The original, which starred Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa in the lead roles, is still the biggest hit in Punjabi cinema.

It is the love story of a sophisticated fashion designer and a rustic Punjabi who keep bumping into one another in Canada. While co-producer Upadhyay has confirmed that they have bought the rights ofJatt & Julietremake and the film will go on the floor next year, he didn’t reveal anything about the cast.

"At the moment, I wouldn't like to comment on the cast. But yes, Himesh and I are going ahead with two projects. One of them is a thriller and the other is the remake ofJatt & Juliet. The Punjabi film was also produced by Himesh and me. We'll do the remake on a much more lavish scale. But the basic plot ofJatt & Julietis so endearing it needs no embellishment in Hindi." On Akshay Kumar's presence in the film, Upadhyay added, "We've just delivered a film that has been immensely liked. So Himesh, Akshay and I would definitely not like to break the team. Like I said, until all the formalities are completed it would be unwise to talk about the casting."
