B.O. Update: ‘Ungli’ mints 12.8 crores while ‘Zid’ thumps surprising 8 crores in opening weekend

This is now becoming a story of every week. A strong respite doesn’t look like coming for the dry box office that has only been seeing films failing back to back. The latest box office releases Ungli and Zid have added some figures though. Analysing the cost, while Ungli has only fared an average stat, Anubhav Sinha’s Zid has unexpectedly surprised.

Rensil D’Silva’s Ungli after collecting 3.6 crores on Friday picked up and earned 4.15 crores on Saturday and another 5.05 crores on Sunday. The film showed strong signs of picking up and minted 12.8 crores in its opening weekend. The other low budget erotic thriller did its part by performing at the B and C centres. The film earned 2.82 crores on Friday while 2.74 and 3.12 crores on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Considering the cost of the film, 8.68 crores over the weekend is quite a solid figure to break in. The film by the end of its theatrical run will certainly yield profits for the producer.

Ungli on the other hand has to perform and hold well on the weekdays. The reviews have been extremely mixed and the word of mouth can be the only saviour. With a large cast and popular music, the film did have a chance to do well but the numbers suggest an underperforming show. Let’s see how things hold up now.
