Bollywood celebs and other renowned personalities remember Late Manna Dey with a heavy heart

Legendary singer Manna Dey passed away yesterday and a golden era in the music world is over with his sad demise. After news of his death spread widely Bollywood celebrities and several prominent personalities have expressed their heartfelt condolences through the micro-blogging site, Twitter.

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, “Manna Dey, stalwart of the music world, passes away. Flooded with memories and his songs. In particular his rendition of Madhushala. RIP... Prayers and condolences to loved ones and family! Strange how we connect events of our life with his songs! At work but shall keep a minutes silence, in Manna Dey's memory on set before we start...” Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt posted, “Manna Dey passes away. His voice shall linger forever.R.I.P.” Actor Manoj Bajpai mourned, “Manna Dey is no more! A great singer! Lets pray for him! My condolences to his family! His music will live for 1000 yrs. RIP.” Singer Kailash Kher echoed others’ sentiments, “Manna Dey, the legend is no more, and his contribution to music and films is unmatchable, RIP. Transformed from physical to divine, prayers.” Another famous singer Sunidhi Chauhan was shocked, “Heartbroken at Manna Da's shocking demise.” Music director Vishal Dadlani shared his emotions saying, “The world is a darker place, as one of the greatest musical lights to ever shine, has left us. May the immortal Manna De-saab rest in peace.” Vishal’s partner Shekhar Ravjiani posted, “The legend is no more... But he'll forever live in our hearts through his songs and his voice. RIP Sir Manna Dey” Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar also wrote, “Manna da, a legendary singer with a golden voice, that ruled our hearts for decades, will be missed by all. Zindagi kaisi hai paheli haye.” Actress Shabana Azmi tweeted, “Manna Dey had a unique voice. He will live on through his songs Ai Meri Zohra Jabeen/ dil ka haal suney dilwala/ poocho na kaise maine RIP.” Filmmaker Kunal Kohli said, “Manna Dey, last of the greats, along with Kishore, Rafi and Mukesh, passes away.RIP.'ek chattur naar' to 'ae mere pyaare watan' what a range.”

Singer Shaan was in a sad mood, “From Rock n roll to pure classical to melancholy to slapstick... no one like Manna Da! Long live Manna Dey!” Singer Shreya Ghosal also stated, “Zindagi kaisi hai paheli, Puchho na kaise, ek chatur naar, aao twist karein, aaja sanam madhur.. Such versatility and command over all genres.Rest in peace Manna Dey saab.. You and your voice are immortal.. Your songs will continue to inspire millions forever..” A remorseful Shankar Mahadevan said, “Zindagi ... Kaisi hai paheli haaye .. Kabhi toh hasaaye ... Kabhi ye rulaaye .. Manna da ... Bless us!” Actor Anupam Kher recalled, “Manna Dey was one of the first legendary singers I heard live on stage in Shimla. He was gentle and calm. Just like his voice. Will miss him. RIP.” Actress Paoli Dam was nostalgic with a Bengali emotion, “'Coffee house er shei adda ta aaj aar nei'... the legend passes away! Manna Dey... RIP.” Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit posted, “Sad to hear about the demise of Manna Dey. A geart singer and a great human being. RIP.” President of India Pranab Mukherjee also expressed his grief, “The nation has lost a veteran playback singer, a versatile artist of extraordinary ability and a creative genius who mesmerized listeners with his enchanting voice.” Politician Sushma Swaraj paid her tribute, “My respectful homage to the memory of the great singer Manna Dey” Cricket personality Harsha Bhogle couldn’t come to terms with Manna Dey’s said demise as he said, “Oh no. Such terrible news to get up to. Manna Dey no more? Less melody in the world.” Singer Usha Uthup said, “It is a very sad news. It is a huge loss for us.” Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar missed her colleague cum friend, “It is a huge loss. We have worked for long long time. We used to discuss on different songs. I am feeling very very sad today.” Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain said, “Last of the great voice of golden Bollywood has moved on. Manna Da will be missed and forever revered.” Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi also joined the mourning club, “In Manna Dey, we have lost a legendary singer. His immortal voice will remain with us forever. May his soul rest in peace.” BJP President Rajnath Singh also wrote, “Manna Dey gave his voice to some of the best compositions of Hindi films music. His death has left a big void in Indian music.”
