Bollywood’s Obsession With Youth, Beauty Annoys Konkona Sen Sharma

Cinema for long has been a huge influence for the Indian society. Bollywood films leave a deep impact on the audiences, helping them building perceptions, especially when it comes to fashion. The films have stereod women as young and beautiful. The age factor seems to have magically disappeared in Hindi films as even in their 30’s the characters from Hindi films are all youthful. The fact that Bollywood is obsessed with youth and beauty seems to annoy Konkona Sen Sharma who has recently been applauded for her performance in Talvar.

The Bollywood actress who recently announced her separation from husband Ranvir Shorey told Hindustan Times, “I wish that Bollywood weren’t so youth and beauty obsessed when it comes to women. I think it is very ‘under representative’ of women in their 30s. It seems that the ideal age for a Bollywood heroine is 24, which is great, but it would be nice to see some older women too on the big screen”.

“Who are these people who are taking these decisions of casting only young actors in films? It is the filmmakers and the film producers. I don’t know if that is what the audience wants because I really believe that masses respond to a good story”, added the Wake Up Sid actress.
