Box Office: Piku enjoys a fairytale run, Bombay Velvet sinks

Who would have thought Piku after a 10 day theatrical run would rake in more moolah than Ranbir Kapoor’s fresh release Bombay Velvet on Monday. Well that’s box office as they say. One works, one doesn’t. At the moment it’s the woman that’s working.

The Shoojit Sircar directorial has been enjoying a fairytale run at the box office. The film added another 2.60 crores on Friday and took its total to almost 59 crores. While on the other hand, Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet on its first Monday itself fell flat. The crime drama could only add about 2.10 crores with the grand total ranging still under 20 crores. Given the scenario, this one’s looking like a major disappointment to the industry.

The extremely positive word of mouth that Piku has been getting comes out as the sole reason for its fabulous run even after so many days. Talking about Akshay Kumar’s Gabbar is Back, the commercial masala film is seeing an end to its box office run with collections ranging about 83 crores.
