‘Entertaining’ weekend waiting for the audience?

Just as Bollywood Khiladi Akshay Kumar gets ready with his latest ‘Entertainment’ due for release tomorrow, the trade market braces itself up. It’s interesting to analyse what factors could make this flick have a decent opening. While Kick’s hangover hasn’t faded away from the box office as yet, another biggie featuring a superstar arrives. Well, just as it goes, this is going to be the story for remaining part of the year.

First things first, no Akshay Kumar film can have a poor opening, irrespective of quality of the film. The factors that go in favour for the film to have a good first day are many. The genre that the film falls in has a wide appeal, it’s a family entertainer and one expects some good footfalls in theatres tomorrow. Akshay being a mass hero, there is no question of his trademarks fans not turning up. The film also marks the debut of Sajid-Farhad as directors. The duo has been writing films for a long time now and have gathered much success lately. With writing credentials of Golmaal series, Singham, Housefull 2, Ready and Chennai Express, it’s tough to believe the film will not be entertaining. Nobody expects a thunderous Kick or Dhoom 3 like opening for Entertainment, but the film will look to put an impressive figure by the end of its first weekend. Action master Akshay too has had a good year so far with ‘Holiday – A Soldier is Never Off Duty’ garnering over 100 crores. He would hope the numbers to convert for Entertainment as well.

The music of the movie has already hit the charts with Johny Johny and Veere Di Wedding becoming popular. The promos of the film have largely impressed the masala seekers and an upward trend reflects a safe opening for the producers. While the makers would be having butterflies in stomach, we would hope the film at least lives to its title ‘Entertainment’.
