Mary Kom mints 27.50 crores in opening weekend, dominates box office

-- Released in an atmosphere with every factor going its way, Priyanka Chopra’s Mary Kom has done a business of 27.50 crores. The film solely dominated the box office this weekend remaining the first choice of viewers who turned up in good numbers to watch this biopic.

The film opened to fairly good figure of 8 crores on Friday and showed a slight improvement on Saturday. However on Sunday the film could not really take that huge lead and collected just over 10 crores. The weekend collection of the film thus came down in the range 27-28 crores. While most would look at this as a good figure considering the women centric appeal it had but looking at the pre- release buzz it had created, one would have at least expected a 30 crore weekend. The word of mouth for the film has been extremely mixed. While the social media has gone all out with praises for the movie, the verdict on the ground has been a little different. The audiences haven’t really liked the film barring Priyanka’s performance.

Taking all things into count, this must still be considered a solid opening since the last two releases Raja Natwarlal and Mardaani were not even half as close to the figure Mary Kom has earned. The weekdays would lead us to what the film has in store for itself.
