Murphy Enterprises sends legal notice to Barfi!

Creating trouble for Anurag Basu, a Mumbai-based company, Murphy Enterprises, has sent a legal notice to the producers of the director’s upcoming releaseBarfi!for alleged infringement of the copyrights of their registered trademarks without obtaining a NOC. In the notice sent to producers of the Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra starrer film, UTV Motion Pictures and Ishana Films, the company has claimed that the film has used 'Murphy', 'Murphy Radio' and 'Murphy Munna' in the title song as well as in the film without any written permission. The lawyer of the company said that if the notice is not taken seriously, they will be filing a legal suit against the producers and demand a stay on the film's release. In the film, Ranbir Kapoor's character is named Murphy, however he is addressed as Barfi by everyone. In the title song Murphy's mother desires to have a child like 'Murphy munna' and the mother dies as soon as Murphy Radio is put on and the child is named so, in her memory, sources said.
