Now a Bollywood actor, Gurmeet Choudhary says TV was getting repetitive

Having explored television for long, actor Gurmeet Choudhary wants to concentrate on films now. The actor, who made his Bollywood debut with Khamoshiyan (2015), feels there is nothing much for him on the small screen at the moment.

“When I started off, I never thought I would be able to do so much on TV. Not to forget the unconditional love I received from the audience,” smiles the actor, adding, “I feel lucky to have got good fictional shows such as Ramayan, Geet – Hui Sabse Parayi and Punar Vivah, as all did well. I did non-fiction shows too. I won Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (season 5), then became the runner- up in Khatron Ke Khiladi (season 5) and Debina (Bonnerjee) and I were the runners- up in Nach Baliye (season 6). I’ve covered everything on TV.”

Gurmeet confesses that after a point of time, televison becomes repetitive. “I was getting similar offers. Also, after playing the lead, the next offer a male actor gets is a father’s role. If you take it up once, then you get cast.I always wanted to do films and felt this was the right opportunity. Even after doing TV shows, I feel lucky to have been known more as Gurmeet Choudhary than my on-screen names,” he says.

Many actors have spoken about competition in Bollywood and how difficult it is to create a foothold. The actor looks at it differently and says, “There is competition everywhere. It depends on how you deal with it. I only compete with myself. I work on my weaknesses. When not shooting, I keep myself busy with other work, as they say an idle mind is the devil’s workshop.”
