Sindhi Community angry with Bejoy Nambiar’s David

Shaitanfame filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar’s ambitious bilingual filmDavidhas reportedly landed itself in a controversy over the use of popular folk songDama dam Mast Kalandarin the movie. Sources said, the Sindhi Community has lodged a protest against the use of the song in the multi-starrer film and asked producer Reliance Entertainment and Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to remove the song from the film. According to reports,Dama dam Mast Kalandarwas originally written byAamir Khusro in the honour of Sindhi Community’s spiritual gurus Shahbaz Qalandar and Jhulelal.

Complainant Manoj Matai said, "Our community is fragmented, but there are certain things we hold close to our heart. One of them is this song as it represents our culture. When the films promo shows violence and lovemaking sequences while the song is being played, it gives the wrong impression. It's my sincere request that this is taken into consideration and they take it off air. I hope this does not work as a publicity stunt." Responding to the issue Bejoy said, "We have used this song because it is iconic and offers an instant connect with million of people. In the film, the song is played during a wedding. There is no intention to hurt the religious sentiments of any community."
