Varun Dhawan unites with Alia Bhatt for Karan Johar’s Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania

Filmmaker Karan Johar has proven to be a mentor to Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. The actors, who started their career last year with Student of the Year under the guidance of Karan Johar, have been signed again by Karan for his next venture. The movie entitled Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania will be a directorial debut by Shashank Khaitan.

A source from production house disclosed, “Though they have been seen together in a film before, their pairing is still fresh and young. Since Varun is currently busy shooting for (father) David Dhawan’s directorial (Main Tera Hero), and Alia has some work she needs to finish on 2 States, they will start shooting for this film by October this year.”

The producer confirmed the news, “We are starting a film with Varun and Alia, which is being directed by Shashank. This is his debut film; he has also written it. It’s a fun, warm and crazy love story and will be shot extensively in Punjab.” He further added, “They (Varun and Alia) had an unrequited romance in SOTY, so this is technically their first on-screen love story.” Karan is co-producing Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter in 2 States, an adaptation of a book by Chetan Bhagat with same name. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is scheduled to release by June 27 next year.
