Vidya Balan to Essay Indira Gandhi in the Biopic

When Vidya Balan said that she wants to portray Indira Gandhi on big screen, she didn’t know she will be soon approached for the biopic. Writer-director Manish Gupta, who is planning for the project has approached the actress but the Humari Adhuri Kahani actress hasn’t given her nod of consent, yet. Revealing what Vidya told him, the director said, “She has liked the script, but hasn’t given a go-ahead yet. Given that the film is on Indira Gandhi, there are precautions needed to be taken before we start”.

Stating that the Dirty Picture actress is the only choice for the role, Manish Gupta said, “I approached Vidya almost three-four months ago. It would be wrong if I claim she has okayed the script.  She feels it’s a nice story but she just told me, ‘How will you make the film? You don’t have the permission from the family’. I had been trying to get the permission months before I approached Vidya”.

Gupta further said that he is in touch with Sonia Gandhi from past eight months, and the politician is aware of his plans for the film but she hasn’t approved yet. Further he stated that by far, he has read 26 books about Indira Gandhi. Denying to reveal the name, Gupta said that a big studio has also claimed the rights to produce the film. He emphasized, “There won’t be any naach gaana in the film. We wouldn’t be showing Indira Gandhi dancing in the film!”. The focus of the movie will be on Indira Gandhi but the flick will also feature Rajeev Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi’s characters.
