1936’s cracked Oscar trophy auctioned for $106,231

Well, Oscars are Oscars and the recent Nate D. Sanders auctions have proved that the Academy Awards are the most prestigious. It was noticed that the status was worn out and was havingcracksin the head and ankles. But the cracks made no difference on the status of the award. A year before,Herman Mankiewicz’saward for the best screen writer forCitizen Kaneearned$588,545 andOrson Welles’s award forthe same fetched$861,542 in 2011. Helen Hayes’s Tony award forHappy Birthdaywas auctioned for$37,230 and the Marlon Brando’s Golden Globe forOn the Waterfrontearned$68,500.

Post AMPAS’s contract with the Oscar winners’ to offer their Oscar to the Academy at a nominal fee, the winners now cannot sell their status’ to the people openly, but these awards were exempted as they were the pre 1950’s trophies. It is evident from the auction results that the Oscars stand out from all the rest.
