Beasts of the Southern Wild to hit theatres again on January 18

Beasts of the Southern Wildhas got a huge boost fromfour major Academy Awards nominations for Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Fox Searchlight Pictures has decided to re-release the movie in theatres on January 18.

This particular date marks the anniversary of the film’s premiere at Sundance Film Festival that crowned the film with Grand Jury Prize and Excellence in Cinematography Award. Till date, the Benh Zeitlin- directed film has won 120 awards from film critics and festivals.

The film is following a common tradition to re-release movies in theaters after getting uplifted by Academy Awards nominations, in the hope of larger box-office business and healthier response from viewers.Beastsof the Southern Wildwas initially released in selected cities for merely 20 weeks that gave an estimated $11.3 million business at the box- office. It was never released in more than 400 theaters, and closed in November 2012. Besides U.S. cities, the film will also be re- released in Blu-Ray, DVD and instant streaming for worldwide viewers.
