Despicable Me 2 wins the box office race over The Lone Ranger

Despicable Me 2, produced by Illumination Entertainment and distributed by Universal is turning out be a path breaker for The Lone Ranger. The movie has banked around over $40 million in its opening week, leaving its competitor, Disney’s Lone Ranger far behind. The film is expected to do business of $140 million over the weekend. The pace at which the flick is getting loved by the viewers, it is expected that it will soon surpass the records of The Croods and Monsters University.

Disney has invested a whole lot of money in The Lone Ranger but it seems that the movie is disappointing many as it has managed to earn only a sum around $10 millions in its first week. The Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ The Lone Ranger is directed by Gore Verbinski and stars Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer. Cold response from the viewers might give it a financial bruise as around $225 million were spent on its production.
