First Image for ‘Southside With You’ Released

The Hollywood Reporter has released a first image for the Obama date movie ‘Southside With You’. The movie tells the story of the American President’s first date with the First Lady. Back in 1989, Barack and Michelle Obama enjoyed their first date which involved lunch, a movie and some 'sugar'.

Known for his role in Hyde Park on Hudson, Zero Dark Thirty and Austenland, Parker Sawyers will be playing Barack Obama. The role of Michelle Robinson will be played by Tika Sumpter. She was seen in movies like Get On Up and Ride Along. On their first date the couple had lunch at the Art Institute of Chicago followed by the screening of 'Do the Right Thing' by Spike Lee. The couple kissed outside Baskin Robins, the ice cream parlour, which now has a plaque commemorating the moment.

According to the Telegraph, 31-year-old Sawyer said, “You just try to stay calm but then people ask: ‘Do you think he’ll watch it?’ And I’m like, oh man, he will watch it, won’t he?”. He added that he was “honoured” to play the role of Barack Obama. The movie will be directed by Richard Tanne who has also written the screenplay. Southside With You will be released next year.
