Garth Davis’s to direct his 1st film with Shantaram’s adaptation?

An adaptation of renowned novel Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts, is into the making and it is learnt that Garth Davis, Top of the Lake episodes’ director, will probably be making his directorial debut with this flick. However, no confirmation has yet arrived. The movie influenced by real life events, centres a convicted drug addict Australian bank robber, who absconds from Pentridge Prison to India.

Produced by Johnny Depp, Warner Bros. along with Infinitum Nihil partner Graham King and Christi Dembrowski, Joel Edgerton is roped in for the same to play the lead. Earlier Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair was about to make an adaptation on the same but the director faced roadblocks. However, the producer of the current film Depp, has acquired the rights in USD 2 million. Other developments are still to make public.
