George Clooney, Sandra Bullock’s space venture Gravity inaugurates Venice film festival
Updated : April 30, 2014 09:09 PM ISTThe 70thVenice film festival has commenced and the sci-fi space thriller Gravity has kick-started the fest. The world premiere of the film showcased Clooney, 52 and Bullock, 49, as astronauts who dive into deep space but after sometime their shuttle hits debris. This 3D venture is directed by Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron.
Bullock shared her experience saying, "Physically and mentally it was the craziest, most bizarre, challenging thing. But you find what you're made of.” The festival will show 53 movies out of 3,500 which were sent to them. Out of these, 20 movies will contend for the top Golden Lion award. The festival will be headed by 10-member jury, which includes director Bernardo Bertolucci, Carrie Fisher, Martina Gedeck and more. There is also a special awards category that will honour Ettore Scola, Italian writer-director, US director William Friedkin and filmmaker of Polish Andrzej Wajda.
