HBO to make Scientology film

According to sources, HBO is planning to air a documentary based on Lawrence Wright's "Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, & The Prison of Belief". The film, directed by Alex Gibney ("Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room"), could air on the network next year.

It’s the story of physical abuse and imprisonment within the church. “We have probably 160 lawyers [looking at the film],” says HBO Documentary Films president Sheila Nevins, who is bracing for protests as well. “If the doc is finished in time, it likely will be submitted to the Sundance Film Festival in January,” he added.
