The Martian Atop The Box Office

Directed by Ridley Scott, The Martian proved to be a huge success grossing $55 million on its first weekend at the domestic box office. Developed on a budget of $108 million, the movie has already made $100.2 million worldwide. It is quite close to what Gravity opened with in 2013 at $55.7 million.

Claiming the second spot was Hotel Transylvania 2 with its $33 million on the second week. Directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, Hotel Transylvania has made more than $150 million worldwide. Coming in third is the American crime thriller Sicario. On its third week, the movie has grossed $12 million domestically and $25 million overall.

Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway starrer The Intern took the fourth spot earning $11 million on its second weekend. The movie has made $72 million worldwide. With little difference between fifth and sixth positions, Black Mass was able to scurry its way to the top five with $5.9 million on its third weekend.
