Maz Kanata Image Straight From Star Wars: Episode VIII Set

The writer and director for Star Wars: Episode VIII, Rian Johnson, has shared a new image from the set of the film, which shows Maz Kanata. The character, introduced in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, was and will be voiced by Lupita Nyong'o. Episode VIII is scheduled to be released on December 15 next year.

The movie will continue from where Episode VII ended, with Rey and Luke Skywalker on Skellig Michael island. Returning for the new episode will be Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Daisy Ridley as Rey, Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa and John Boyega as Finn. The new additions to the cast will include Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ has become one of the highest grossing movies of all time. It was directed by J.J. Abrams and marked the last appearance of Harrison Ford as Han Solo. Episode VIII is produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman with Jason McGatlin, Tom Karnowski and J.J. Abrams serving as executive producers.
