Mel Brooks: Comedy Has To Walk A Thin Line, Take Risks

Hollywood director Mel Brooks’ 'Blazing Saddles', is widely considered one of the greatest comedies in history and the director believes that it cannot be made in the current ‘politically correct' climate. The film is one of the funniest comedy film ever in the history of cinema, which also addressed the societal issues.

The veteran recently talked about the political correctness culture in an interview and called it 'the death of comedy'. When asked if he would get films like 'Blazing Saddles’, the Oscar winner replied, “No, no, I mean maybe 'Young Frankenstein.' Maybe a few. But never 'Blazing Saddles,' because we have become stupidly politically correct, which is the death of comedy”.

Moreover, he said that not hurting the feelings of various tribes and groups is bad for comedy. He said, “Comedy has to walk a thin line, take risks. Comedy is the lecherous little elf whispering into the king's ear, always telling the truth about human behaviour”. Further, the film'Blazing Saddles' starred actors Gene Wilder and Cleavon Little, which is known for its racial smears.
