Men face sexism in Hollywood, too Says Kit Harington
Updated : May 31, 2016 02:26 PM ISTActor Kit Harington says he knows a lot about the “demeaning” sexism he feels men in Hollywood suffer. The Actor believes that there’s a “double standard” in the filming industry and that male actors, like women, are also the victims of discrimination based on their looks.
The 29-year-old admitted to the Sunday Times Magazine that he desires fame beyond his hunky looks and luscious locks. “I like to think of myself as more than a head of hair or a set of looks,” he told the magazine. “It’s demeaning. Yes, in some ways you could argue I’ve been employed for a look I have. But there’s a sexism that happens towards men. There’s definitely a sexism in our industry that happens towards women, and there is towards men as well,” he continued.
The actor also expressed that he feels uncomfortable when he is asked to strip down for magazine photo shoots because he wants to be known for his acting instead of his looks. “There’s definitely sexism in our industry that happens towards women, and there is towards men as well. At some points during photoshoots when I’m asked to strip down, I felt that. If I felt I was being employed just for my looks, I’d stop acting,” he added. Jon Snow appeared to be killed off at the end of “Game of Thrones” season five last year, leaving fans shocked by the cliffhanger. However, the character was resurrected in the premiere of season six.
