The Mummy Reboot Featuring Tom Cruise

Variety has reported that the reboot for The Mummy has roped in Tom Cruise as the first cast member of the film. The reboot will be directed by Alex Kurtzman and will be part of Universal Pictures shared universe of monster movies. The specifics of Tom Cruise’s role are currently uncertain.

There have been several takes on The Mummy and the 1932 film by Karl Freund can be considered as the movie to have established the fame of the character. The most recent take on the monster was The Mummy trilogy directed by Stephen Sommers. The new reboot will be a modern take on the film.

The script for the film will be written by Jon Spaihts and will be released on March 24, 2017. Tom Cruise was recently seen in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and will also reprise his role as Jack Reacher in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. The current reports about the reboot suggest that the team is looking for either a male or female version of the character.
