Octavia Spencer may join ‘The Shack’

The Help Oscar winner Octavia Spencer is in talks to play God in a film version of the bestselling novel ‘The Shack,’ according to reports. Stuart Hazeldine is directing the adaptation. Gil Netter is producing through Netter Productions along with Brad Cummings.

The bestselling novel, released in 2007, follows a man whose youngest daughter is abducted during a family vacation, with all evidence leading to her having been murdered. Years later, he receives a note which appears to be from God, urging him to reexamine the shack centrally linked to his daughter’s disappearance. The Shack sold more than 18 million copies around in the world and was translated into 39 languages. Octavia, who won an Oscar for The Help, can next be seen opposite Shailene Woodley in the second installment of the Divergent series, Insurgent, hitting theaters March 20.
