Pacific Rim beats international blockbuster’s sequel Smurfs 2; 2 Guns tops locally

The much anticipated comedy flick Smurfs 2 has gone down in the international market while Pacific Rim, a sci-fi fiction by Guillermo del Toro is appreciated by all. The Sony Pictures Animation has earned $27.8 million from stateside audiences and $52.5 million have been collected from 43 overseas markets while the Pacific Rim has a total outcome of $200 million foreign, $45.2 million from China, $53 million from abroad.

The Wolverine distributed by Fox gained $21.7 million in three days from its release while Smurfs 2 has made $18.2 million in the same span of days. To lure the domestic audience, Sony’s distribution czar Rory Bruer said, “We have little blue guys running around every corner of the planet.” 2 Guns starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg has reached the local masses. It seems as if the chemistry between the two has worked well. Pacific Rim starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi in the lead, is a story of a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures.
