Ridley Scott in discussions to helm The Martian

Filmmaker Ridley Scott may be seen on director’s chair for The Martian, an adaptation of a book of the same name by Andy Wei. The story revolves around an astronaut Mark Watney, who makes history by landing on Mars but suddenly everything changes. It is about the complexities and courage of a man who left alone on Mars by his crew with no visible way to reach Earth.

The film to be produced by 20th Century Fox will have Scott as co-producer with Simon Kinberg and Aditya Sood. Drew Goddard will pen down the script for the same. Goddard was earlier appointed to helm the project, but he quit as he had prior commitments. The casting is not yet done. Scott last directed The Counselor and is presently working on Exodus: Gods and Kings and an untitled Prometheus sequel.
