Mohanlal and Priyadarshan To Reunite For A Period Film

Mohanlal and Priyadarshan have collaborated several times and the duo has delivered some of the best movies. They last teamed up for the film Oppam which was super hit. They are coming up again for a period film about Kunjali Marikkars of the 16th century. The movie is believed to be made on a high budget.

"We wanted to do a big film together next. As a result, we have been working on Kunjali Marikkar for some time. The research for the film is ongoing and it would take at least 10 months for that to complete,” said Priyadarshan.  The director said the team found it very challenging to collect unique information as whatever they found was open to public.

Talking about the movie, he said, "The movie will be a mix of fiction and facts as information about many of the incidents that happened during the era is unavailable. It's all scattered and we are trying to combine all of that and come up with a good storyline.” Kunjali Marikkar was the title which was given to the naval chief of the Zamorin during 16th century in order to protect the coast from the Portuguese. During the era, there were four main Kunjali Marikkars. However, Priyadarshan says that he hasn’t decided which one Mohanlal will play.
