Of late 2017 has been quite a game changer at the box office. While some sure shot blockbusters have tanked at the box-office, some small budget experimental films were able to mint money at the box office. Even the traditional big films of Bollywood, this year, got a seal of approval from the cine goers, not because of the star power or chart topping music, but because of its content.

Here is a list of 7 most successful films of Bollywood that proved content was the biggest crowd puller of 2017.

Baahubali 2

With a box-office earning of more than 1600 crore (yes, you read that right), this was a game changer in many ways. The content of the movie was rich with VFX of international standards and a level of grandeur one could even fathom. The fact that it was a regional movie that was able to transcend linguistic barrier also goes to show the strength the movie had.

Lipstick Under My Burkha 

The film was under the censor board scanner for a lot of bizarre reasons until it was finally allowed to release. With women exploring their sexuality and chasing their dreams the film and an impactful run at the box office and turned out to a hit. The film has made over 20 crores at the box office already while it was made a budget of 6 crores.

Kaabil

Movies in which both the protagonist are visually challenged were traditionally never been a huge hit with the Hindi cinema audience. Kaabil and its box office success, however, changed this notion forever.  This Hrithik Roshan-Yami Gautam starer earned about 130 crores at the box

Jolly LLB 2

Another movie that did exceptionally well at the box office this year was the sequel of Arshad Warsi starrer Jolly LLB, Jolly LLB 2 which at Akshay and Huma Quereshi in the lead roles. A gripping court room drama laced with the right dose of humour, this one did not have Akshay Kumar performing stunts and beating up the baddies, but the literal hero of the script, like its 2013 counterpart, was the extremely gripping and real storyline the actual literally the actual hero of the film, that led to a box office collection of about 120 crores.

Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya

Yes, the Varun-Alia chemistry was an important factor, but nobody can deny that the film's excellent treatment of India's small towns, their youth and their constant struggle to live their lives on their own terms while maintaining a precarious balance between the modern aspirations and traditional bigotry. The story was served with a great dose of entertainment and grossed about 120 crores at the box office.

Hindi Medium

Made with a budget of 23 crores, Hindi Medium grossing about 70 crores at the box office is probably one of the biggest proofs of content being the crowd pleaser in 2017. The movie had a darkly humorous tone and showed the struggles of modern urban India in its real light. What could have been a critical success at the best, garnered complete appreciation from the audiences and went on to become one of the biggest success stories of the year simply based on the content.

Toilet-Ek Prem Katha

Again, it would be untrue to claim this Akshay Kumar- Bhumi Pedneker starrer had no star power, but the smashing opening collection of Toilet- Ek Prem Katha had little to do with the stars. The quirky, yet the real issue was at the helm of its popularity. The movie has already earned about 65 crores at the box and continues to have a successful run.
