After 40 Cuts, This is Going To Happen To Udta Punjab!
Updated : June 06, 2016 02:08 PM ISTOkay, this is madness.
After being under pressure from Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for making as many as 40 cuts in the film, Udta Punjab’s makers have now been asked to change the name of the film.
Yes, really.
According to reports, Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) has asked the makers of film to remove “Punjab” from the title. Not only that, the committee has recommended removing “any reference of the state in the film or cities thereof,” the report has added.
Understandably, the news hasn't gone down well with the Twitterati.

The hotly anticipated movie, which stars Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh, will tackle the drug-situation in the state of Punjab. Shahid Kapoor, who will play the role of a foul-mouthed rockstar with drug addiction, is supposed to be a metaphor for the problems prevalent in the state.
Despite all the controversies, the filmmakers and the actors of the film have stressed that the film carries a positive message and the film hasn't been used to malign the reputation of the state in any way.
Earlier, the film got in trouble with the Censor Board, which wanted to make 40 cuts to the film for extensive usage of expletives and visual representations of drug use.
Udta Punjab is due to release on 17th June. By then, who knows what all would have happened to the movie we deperately want to see.
