Pehredaar Piya Ki Audience Reviews For The First Episode

Sony’s Pehredaar Piya Ki which was in news for its rather revolutionary storyline became a point of debate on the internet because it evoked erratic reactions from viewers, but, there were some fans and viewers with unbiased views who were rooting for the show.

Desimartini asked its contributors to review the first episode of Pehredaar Piya Ki on Sony, and their reactions are quite mixed. While many of them think that the show is irrational and regressive, there are some who have a different point of view to the plot. Read some of the excerpts from the audience reviews we received.

Afaan Khan steals the show

According to a contributor Mehak Khurana, who claims to be a diehard fan of Sony’s show Beyhadh, “The kid's instant obsession with the girl is a bit too hard to digest even though Tejasswi Prakash did look like a million bucks. While it's still too early to comment on the intention of the show, a few scenes here & there made me feel a bit uncomfortable to watch. The highlight of the episode however was the kid, Afaan Khan! His expressions and dialogue delivery were spot on. It was a nice change to see Parmeet Sethi back on screen & I’m definitely intrigued about who the Kaaki Sa is & if she really wants to kill Ratan.”

Mystery behind Kaki Maasa

While this loyal fan had a balanced view towards the first episode, another contributor Udaya, seconded this thought saying, “The mystery behind Kaki Maasa (or Kaaki as Ratan’s mom wants him to address her) is very intriguing. Although we know nothing about her as yet, she seems like a sweet person reciting stories to Ratan and definitely loves Ratan as her very own. So then why does Ratan’s mom not like her? Like every family, this one has characters with different shades which make the show very interesting.”

The protector is scared of cockroaches

However, some of the reviews that Desimartini received did not have positive things to say about the show. The first episode showed that the protector, Diya (Tejasswi Prakash) is scared of cockroaches, while eventually she’s going to protect the child Ratan Singh. DM's contributor Arunita had a rather logical argument when she said, “Especially if the woman who will play his protector in the future is established to be not very brave in real life. Based on the pilot we have seen, it seems not very far that we will see why the story will turn a leaf that has been questioned so strongly. But the story can turn either way and might convince us with its strong storyline or fade away completely. It certainly draws curiosity though and that is what will take the show forward.”

Sony has always been a progressive channel

A contributor Disha, who also seems to be a big fan of Sony Entertainment Television expressed her disappointment over the show saying, “Sony has always been a progressive channel, and it is sad to see such a show being aired. It shows how the channel is desperately trying hard to venture into social causes, which are totally unnecessary. It has given us some urban centric shows like Bade Ache Lagte Hain, hence this feels like a big disappointment.”

Abhay Singh, a Desimartini contributor who coincidently shares his name with Suyyash Rai’s character in the show also reviewed the first episode of Pehredaar Piya Ki. He wrote, “The only thing that might need some improvements is the constant cuts from person to person or location to location between shots as it seemed a bit excessive. Also, the formal method of addressing each other became a little overbearing as the episode progressed. All in all, a base has clearly been set, whilst it’s not really captured the attention of this writer, but maybe the plot picks up pace from here when newer characters (particularly a villain) are introduced.”

A rather infuriated reviewer Zinia wrote, “For God’s sake, if someone attempted to poison your son, you do not speak the way these characters were speaking! The mother is supposed to be hysterical and I do not think she will confront the suspect in the way the actress was doing it. Moreover, the father showed limited sign of tension and the scene clearly lacked the feels!”

Not a typical soap opera

Anjali Arora, Desimartini’s contributor expressed that, “The show is not going in the typical soap-opera direction; this show might be the next big hit on TV!”
