6 Popular 90's Actresses That Are Set For Their Bollywood Comeback

Actresses have had a pretty tough run in film industries worldwide. They are constantly subjected to a biasedness that pays them less than their male counterparts, treated with less respect by the media and are not given well-rounded and three-dimensional roles. Another regressive norm that actresses everywhere endure that while the actors, at least the very successful ones, have choices of good roles throughout the length of their careers, actresses often are associated with a shorter 'shelf life'. 

A simpler way to put it would be that although male actors are given the opportunity to have a long and illustrious acting careers, female actors are seldom given that chance. Which is why we constantly see that actresses that were once incredibly retiring or moving on from the business of film at a relatively young age.

But as we have pointed out several times before that films in Bollywood -- and all over the world really -- are going through a sort of renaissance. Bollywood, after years of largely producing films of lowest common denominator, is finally producing films of much more depth and with much more professionalism. And a small by-product of that is the fact that there are better roles for 'experienced' actresses. While there are still gaping holes in the system and not all of these roles are exceptionally written, it is a positive change.

Here are the ones that are making their Bollywood comeback:

1. Manisha Koirala

A popular and significant actress of the 90's and early 2000's, Manisha Koirala disappeared from the spotlight. But that is about to change when she will be making her comeback in Rajkumar Hirani's Dutt, in which she will play the role of legendary actress Nargis.

2. Kajol

Though it appeared to many that highly commercial Dilwale was a one-off, but, in fact, Kajol is gearing up to do more films. One of those films is Ship of Theseus' Anand Gandhi's next film.

3. Rani Mukherjee

Though she was brilliant in 2014's Mardaani, it felt like Rani Mukherjee had put her acting career on the side. But that changed when it was confirmed that she will return as a lead in Yash Raj Film's Hichki. 

4. Karisma Kapoor

Another 'experienced' actress that has been linked to many roles. But, sadly, one that has been confirmed is a cameo role. The actress, along with Salman Khan, is set to appear in Varun Dhawan's Judwaa 2.

5. Preity Zinta

Preity Zinta, remember her? The actress-turned-cricket team owner is going to back her roots. Her movie, Bhaiyaji Superhit, along with Arshad Warsi and Sunny Deol, is all set to release this year.

6. Sridevi

Yes, she has already made her comeback in the exceptional 2012's English Vinglish, but she is not stopping there. The actress is gearing up for films Mom and Mister India 2.
