Ram Gopal Varma's Veerappan releases this Friday and it's about time that we get excited.

It's understandable if you have your doubts. Ram Gopal Varma has provided enough bad films recently to deserve that. But Veerappan looks to be better than his recent films. It might not seem to be in the same league as Satya, Company or even Sarkar, but it also doesn't look as bad as Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag or Bhoot Returns either.

So here are the reasons you should consider going to theatres and buying the ticket for the film this weekend:

Veerappan is a proven formula

Before this film, Ram Gopal Varma has already made a film on Veerappan. The Kannada film, called Killing Veerappan, was released at the start of the year and proved to be a great critical and commercial success. Veerappan will be heaviiyi influended by the Kannada film and odds are that it will be just as good.

Such a mind-boggling subject

Scary-good Sandeep Bhardwaj and return of Lisa Ray

Sandeep Bhardwaj needed to be really scary and intense to play a monster such as Veerappan in Killing Veerappan – he was. Now, he returns for the Hindi version Veerappan and it is safe to expect that he will be solid in the titular role. Also, the super gorgeous and incredibly talented Lisa Ray will have her first major role in years.

Crime film of a different scale in Bollywood

Crime films in Bollywood have a limited scale, issues are tackled on a micro-level. But Veerappan's life story is such that the film would have a lot of layers. The film is expected to expose sandalwood mafia, a manhunt and biopic of a rising criminal. If the real events are entirely considered, the film can also have a political edge to it.

Perfect film for Ram Gopal Varma?

Ram Gopal Varma has made a name for himself  by making unforgettable films about crime. Veerappan, who is one of the worst criminals in India, seems like a perfect match for the director. Though his films in the past few years haven't been good but this seems the perfect opportunity to return to form in Bollywood.
