J.K. Rowling Defends The Casting Of Black Hermione
Updated : April 06, 2016 11:02 AM ISTSocial media has been buzzing with the news of a black actress playing the role of Hermione in the upcoming play 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child'. Noma Dumezweni, a British theatre and television star, has been roped in to play the role of our beloved Hermoine.
While there has been a mixed response to the news, JK Rowling has expressed her love for the character and that it is not related to her skin colour. The author tweeted:
Canon: brown eyes, frizzy hair and very clever. White skin was never specified. Rowling loves black Hermione ? https://t.co/5fKX4InjTH

And the characters are open to interpretation and revision, suggested a tweet by Matthew Lewis.
