Will Housefull 3 Be Able To Beat Airlift At Box Office?

In a year that’s going to enter its second half in a month’s time, has surprisingly been extremely underwhelming in terms of box office prospects. While most of the moderately budgeted movies couldn’t sail past the winning mark, Shah Rukh Khan with his much ambitious experiment went down with a bewildering failure in the looks of Fan.

For the first time in last few years, only one Bollywood film in the span of 5 months has been able to get past the 100 crore mark. Akshay Kumar’s Airlift that released in January this year grossed over a 100 crore to attain a hit status followed by a series of silence still going on. While movies like Neerja and Baaghi did yield some profits for its producers, the films were still far from hitting the coveted mark of 100 crores.

Now that Sajid Nadiadwala’s Housefull 3 gets ready to unveil its fate the coming Friday, all eyes would follow it through its journey to see if it makes into the 100 crore club. Both previous films of the series were hits with Housefull 2 comfortably crossing over the 100 crore mark in 2011. With Akshay in his prime form besides a severe drought of family comedies right now, Housefull 3 does hold the edge.

The film has a rich cast with the likes of Abhishek Bachchan, Nargis Kakhri and Lisa Haydon breaking in. It already is blessed with a franchise that has previously found takers at the box office. It also has the potential to serve on the cinematic demands of what a major section of our audience is longing for. On another note, franchise’s original creator Sajid Khan who has mostly been at the receiving end of flak from viewers for his extravagant duds like Himmatwala and Humshakals has now been shown the door.

The film is helmed by the writer-director Jodi of Sajid-Farhad who debuted with last year’s Entertainment also starring Akshay Kumar. With things seemingly going in its favor, team Housefull 3 will only have themselves to blame if it doesn’t touch or go beyond the 100 crore mark.

This hasn’t been the best of years for Bollywood box office lately and Hollywood has dominatingly eliminated a lot of Hindi films from the race. Housefull 3 is the best chance to regain the lost glory for Bollywood box office as far the first half of 2016 is concerned.
