18 Years Later And We Still Love Rohit From Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai

The last year of the 2nd millennium had a lot of interesting things lined up for Bollywood. The year 2000 was a successful one for romantic films like Dhadkan , Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai , Mohabbatein etc while comedies like Hera Pheri , Kunwara, Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge became huge hits. There was also a star kid making his debut in the Hindi Film industry in a film titled Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai and from his very first film he became the heartthrob of the nation.

Fast forward to 2018 and you will see Hrithik Roshan is one of the biggest stars working in Bollywood today. The actor has made a name for himself by starring in a number of acclaimed films as well as monstrous blockbusters and has a huge fan following thanks to his Greek God looks and a chiselled body that gives fitness goals to anyone who sees him. The actor has admirers all over the world and leading celebrities from Hollywood and other industries have admitted to being a crazy Hrithik fan.

His very first film scooped all the major awards and was inducted into Limca Book of records for winning the highest number of awards (102). He also won the Filmfare award for the best Male Debut as well as for the best actor and beat the likes of Shah Rukh Khan . The romantic-thriller became a blockbuster at the box-office and Hrithik received praise for his acting and dancing skills. With his very first film, he attained superstardom.

He had a successful debut year with his other 2 films Fiza and Mission Kashmir also performing well at the box-office. The young actor then did a number of films, most of them being romantic films and they tanked at the box-office. His only success during this dry spell was Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and it wasn't until 2003's Koi Mil Gaya after which he became a force to reckon with. He diversified his portfolio and took on challenging roles, be it the directionless Karan in Lakshya or a master thief in Dhoom2.

He took a risk with Dhoom 2 which paid off successfully at the box-office and the film became a huge success. His acting, physique and dancing skills were praised youngsters started copying their favourite star. After Shah Rukh Khan, it seemed like only Hrithik can pull off a negative character successfully. The actor also took on the role of a superhero in Krrish and became India's modern day superhero. While other actors also tried their hands at the superhero genre, nobody saw widespread success like Krrish. 

He took on a number of different roles which received widespread critical acclaim and showed the audiences his range as an actor. In Jodha Akbar, he essayed the role of Mughal King Akbar while in Sanjay Leela Bhansali 's Guzaarish , he played the role of a paralyzed magician who seeks permission from the court to end his life. Guzaarish received highly positive reviews from everyone saying it was Hrithik's best performance to date.  In Zoya Akhtar 's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara , he played the role of an overworked employee who has forgotten that life outside work exists and reconnects with friends and himself. Most of the people connected with his character. 

The actor has continued his success streak at the box-office with films like Agneepath, Krrish 3 and Bang Bang becoming hugely successful at the box-office. The only flop he has starred in since Guzaarish is Ashutosh Gowariker's Mohenjo Daro . His latest release Kaabil was also a box-office success. But since 2011's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, the actor hasn't experimented with his roles and characters and has mostly stayed in a comfort zone playing roles he can perfectly ace.

While it is heartening to see all the box-office success he is getting, his fans also expect to see the actor in different avatars and in different settings. There was a time when he was seen portraying a variety of different characters and audiences are waiting for something different from him. The actor will be essaying the role of Anand Kumar in Super 30 biopic and audiences are going to see him in a different avatar.

Even after an 18-year long career, his stardom is intact, ever-increasing and audience's love for him has only grown stronger. Here's wishing him a Happy 44th Birthday!
