Successful Bollywood Films That Flopped At The Chinese Box-Office
Bollywood Films That Flopped In China
Updated : April 21, 2019 01:46 PM ISTIndian films have always been the pride of our country. As a country, we are obsessed with Bollywood and nothing brings us more joy and pride than other countries of the world giving Bollywood the love and respect we relentlessly shower on it.
After a long hiatus, Indian films are again on a mission to conquer the Chinese box-office. The spellbinding success of films like Dangal, Secret Superstar, and Hindi Medium has proved that Chinese people have a solid appetite for Bollywood films.
However, while there are some dazzling stories of Bollywood’s success at the Chinese box-office, there are also some disappointments. Here are a few successful films of Bollywood that tanked at the Chinese box-office.
Baahubali 2
The biggest success story of Indian films, Baahubali 2 would go down in the history of Indian films for breaking the box-office in India the way it did. However, the Chinese box-office which has recently warmed up to Indian films was not quite impressed by the saga of Baahubali and Mahishmati. The film which collected a mind-numbing 1400 crores in India, managed to make only 80 crores at the Chines box-office.
Sultan
A typical Salman Khan treat on Eid, Sultan was lapped up by Indian audiences like all other Salman Khan films. The film opened to a 70% occupancy rate in India and registered a phenomenal 421 crores at the domestic box-office. However, in China, the film is currently struggling to keep up. Three days after its release the film has been meeting with a sad response and has only managed to rake in 14.38 crores which is almost unheard of in case of Salman Khan.
Tubelight
Unlike India, Salman Khan is not a sure shot success at the Chinese box-office. Although his film Bajraangi Bhaijaan had a good run in China, apart from Sultan, Chinese audiences also rejected Tubelight. It is all the more the surprising as the film has Sino-Indian war as its backdrop and also has Chinese actor Zhu Zhu playing the main lead opposite Salman in the film. But then again, a Salman Khan film that collects only 106 crores in Bhai’s home ground, has little chances of survival elsewhere.
