5 BIG Bollywood Sequels To Watch Out For In 2019

2018 wasn't really a great year for sequels. Even though 2.0 [Hindi] and Baaghi 2 did turn out to be successful, there were quite a few disappointments. Race 3 flattered to deceive, 1921 did cover some sort of a distance but then there were quite a few flops and disasters. Vishwaroop 2, Namaste England, Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se, Sahib Biwi aur Gangster 3, Hate Story IV, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi - none of these could gather any sort of moolah.

However, one just hopes that the trend reverses in 2019 as there are five major sequels up for release. Let's take a look:

Total Dhamaal - 21st February

Dhamaal was a success, Double Dhamaal was an even bigger success and now it is pretty much on the cards that Total Dhamaal would cross all frontiers. Indra Kumar has been known for his comedy outings and his formula is being replicated by quite a few new entrants in the industry. No wonder, Dhamaal series with Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi and Javed Jaffrey has been finding good traction amongst the audiences. Now with Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit stepping in as well, at the bare minimum the film is set for a 100 crore lifetime.

Student of the Year 2 - 10th May

On its release, Student of the Year was the costliest film ever to have been made with newcomers. However, Karan Johar was making a future investment for all associated with the film which launched three careers in the form of Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Siddharth Malhotra. Now with Student of the Year 2, he is launching two newcomer girls, Tara Sutaria and Ananya Pandey. What further makes the romcom musical special is the fact that Tiger Shroff is the one in charge, which makes this Punit Malhotra directed film much bigger than its predecessor.

Housefull 4 - Diwali 2019

Come Diwali and it is going to be houseful times all over again. Saji Nadiadwala has been backing this franchise in a big way ever since Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh came together for Housefull. While the first also had Arjun Rampal as the leading man, second saw an inclusion of John Abraham and third had an appearance from Abhishek Bachchan. Now Housefull 4 would see Bobby Deol entering the enterprise. Considering the fact that this one promises to enter the Baahubali zone with its reincarnation theme, we are already hyped up, and how.

ABCD 3 - 8th November

Remo D'Souza has been an architect of ABCD series, Bollywood's sole dance franchise that has been quite successful. While the first went past the 50 crore mark, second entered the 100 crore club. One expected ABCD 3 to be even bigger since Katrina Kaif was joining Varun Dhawan and Prabhu Deva in the musical. However with reports of the actress backing out, and has been replaced by Shraddha Kapoor who also starred in ABCD 2. All said and done, the film has its loyal set of audiences and when it releases later this year, it would indeed find some good footfalls.

Sadak 2 - 15th November

One waits to see whether Sadak 2 is the sequel to original Sadak [1991] or just a title that has been used due to the franchise quotient. However, the fact that Mahesh Bhatt is returning to direction with this one which features Alia Bhatt as the leading lady indeed makes the film special. Sadak 2 brings together Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt 28 years after they did Sadakand Aditya Roy Kapur too returns to the Bhatts fold after delivering a Blockbuster Aashiqui 2. Rest assured, one looks forward to an intense drama with music as a key highlight.
